Announcements:

  • 34th Annual Championship Big Wheel Race will be held on Friday, August 1st. Registration is at 5:45pm and the race begins at 7pm. (Sponsors: Warsaw Breakfast Optimist, Penguin Point & Warsaw Parks & Recreation). Please see David Meier for more information.
  • The 2014-2015 Optimist Directory will underway soon. New pictures will be taken Aug. 6th-Sept 3rd. Ads are due by September 10th. Update Member Information deadline is Sept. 17th. Committee & Project info due by Sept. 17th. Please see Dr. Jason Rich and Jim Hayes for more information.
  • Our Optimist Singers will start up again on August 13th.
  • Our guest, Leeland Lemaster discussed the upcoming Indiana North District Convention will be held in Warsaw, Friday & Saturday, August 8th & 9th. He was inspired by our attendance this morning and encourage everyone to sign up for the this meeting.

 

Spotlight:

Jane Wear from Cardinal Services received a check from our club in the amount of $1000 which was presented by President, Everett Nifong. The money will go towards their Healthy Families Program.

 

Sergeants-at-Arms: Lyle Enyeart and Luke Becknell entertained us:

    • Dr. David Haines for his attempt to coach the visiting cheerleaders for the Birthday Song this morning.
    • John Sullivan for something involving his table.
    • Dave Taylor for sitting at the “babe” table.
    • Kellie Malcolm for showing her “Vanna White” display of the allergy boxes.
    • Brooke Hamstra for saying she has 2 sons, twin boys.
    • Bill Landrigan and Tracy Horrell for being cheerleaders back in the day.
    • Dr. K.T. Kishan for I’m not exactly sure what.
  • EXTRA BONUS: Lyle Enyeart stumped us all this morning on asking us where the term “Indiana” came from….Answer: A territory of the Indians.
  • Happy $1-
    • Marty Becker gave $2 and said, “I’ll be back!”
    • Juergen Voss gave to announce that the Water Ski Club made a 4 tier pyramid that was perfect! He also added that the National Championship will be in two weeks, make sure you go check it out!

Program:

Ronna Kawsky the Director from Warsaw Area Career Center (WACC) presented this morning.

Mission Statement: Our mission at WACC is to assist students in finding their passion and developing the skills necessary to suceed, and to be ahead of the competition.

Ronna encouraged us all to get involved and to learn more about their programs. She asked what do we as business leaders need from them? They offer college credits to high school students to help them achieve sucess. WACC received the largest grand in Indiana for $350,000. They are getting ready to launch a new program called Advanced Manufacturing Academy. To learn more contact Ronna today!
