We are collecting for our scholarship fund in honor of Mary Ellen Jordan.  I know we are all at a loss for words.  I feel that Warsaw City Planner, Jeremy Skinner, said it best when he described not only her work ethic and volunteerism, but that when you approached Mary Ellen with a request, her demeanor was that it was no problem, regardless of how much was on her plate.  I know that Mary Ellen covered for me on many occasions and her demeanor was always as Jeremy described.  She most recently did our Optibullette for us July 17.

Fred Nieter read a nice card from Wayne Snider.  Wayne sent us a nice true story of an award winning teacher who started the 1st day of school with no desks in the room. She asked her students how they earned the right to sit at desks.  As the students came up with ideas through the day, they fell short.  At the end of the day a group of veterans showed up with the desks.  Each veteran brought in a desk and placed it in the classroom.  The kids learned a valuable lesson that our veterans paid the price for us.  It was the student’s job to study.  We can never repay the price our veterans have paid for us.

Past President George Brennan presented Tracy Horrell with a $300 check for Edgewood Middle School’s Positive Behavior Program.

David Meier is looking for help with Penguin Point’s, Warsaw Parks & Recreation’s, and our 33rd Annual Big Wheel Race Friday, August 2 at the Family Carnival at Center Lake Park.  Registration is from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.  The races start at 7 p.m.  Most help is needed from 6 p.m.   There is a 4 & 5 year old division and a 6 & 7 year old division.  Each division winner gets a bicycle and trophy.  Second & third place winners get trophies and certificates.

President Tracy Furnivall is looking for someone to head up the parking for the spectators at Cruisin Hoosiers Car Show on Saturday, August 24 for Baker Youth Club

Please pray for our Troops and Families:   Col James Moeller – Air Force

Sergeants-at-Arms:  John ElliottEverett Nifong, & Joel Wihebrink entertained us.

Trina Hoy gave kudos to Mary Ellen Jordan, President of the Warsaw Community Development Corporation (WCDC) and Lynn Kendall from Miles Printing for our brand new Downtown Warsaw dinning guide.   https://warsawcdc.org/

Coach Doug Ogle is back after his daughter, Courtney’s wedding.  He is looking forward to using the new gym floor.

We celebrated David Meier’s promotion to Director of Operations at Penguin Point.

It was noted Chad Zaucha also belongs to the service club that does not do fund raisers.

David & Clelda Benning are participating in Kosciusko County Historical Society’s open house fundraiser Saturday, August 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For more information call 269-1078.

Kelsi Griffith was given a nice news article in the paper about Kosciusko County Community Foundation.

Craig Allebach was commended for the work being done in Winona Lake.

President Elect Everett Nifong is back from his son’s wedding.

Ann Sweet commended Past Gov. Ron Donkers for starting the kid’s Triathlon and Chris Wiggins for encouraging Ann’s granddaughter to participate.

Lt. Gov. John Sullivan’s grandson, Michael Miller is on the Michiana Scrapper baseball team.  They achieved a 25 – 2 record by team effort.

Gene Groninger paid a fine for missing for 9 years.  He brought his badge today.  He also took it at the end of the meeting, as is his habit.

Program:

Executive Director Angie Wood told us of the work that Heartline Pregnancy Center does.  Heartline encourages, educates, and equips young people with unexpected pregnancies.  Heartline is supported by private donations.  They are located in the K21 Health Pavilion.

Heartline offers free pregnancy tests & ultrasounds to confirm pregnancies.  Heartline offers educational programs for parents where they can earn coupons to the B.A.B.E. Boutique.  Heartline provides adoption services.  Heartline is ProLife, but out of concern for hurting people, Heartline provides post-abortion counseling.  Heartline provides care for children of students in high school & college.

Many volunteer opportunities exist at Heartline.

Saturday, October 12 Heartline has a Walk For Life fundraiser.
