>>>> INFORMATION
Membership: Past President Joel Wihebrink inducted Eric Lane, who was sponsored by Rich Haddad and Trina Hoy.
President Everett Nifong reported the following Board action:
No meeting December 25 nor January 1.
Our caterers in 2014 will be the Golden Coral. Penguin Point has been great.
We are giving $250 for Winona Lake’s Kringlefest.
The Valentine’s Banquet has been cancelled. Attendance has dwindled.
Art Gakstatter invited us to help at 1:45 p.m. today moving the Santa House to the Courthouse. It will be downtown for First Friday. Our board approved the purchase of a new photo printer since the old one is worn out.
Today and next week we will collect for gratuities for our Wonderful Servers.
Today and next week we are also collecting for Christmas gifts for the kids at Baker Youth Clubs.
Lt. Gov. John Sullivan reported that when he visited the Plymouth Club Paul Nye gave us $80 for the $79 that he received fair and square from our club at our last year’s Optimist Singer’s Christmas program. The Plymouth club will visit us when our Optimist Singers do this year’s Christmas program and White Elephant Auction on December 18. As Chris Wiggins would say the $1 equates to “approximately 1.2658% APY if compounded annually.” That is actually a really good rate these days. Maybe we can get some of their money at the Auction.
Board Member Adam Turner presented Staci Young with $300 for the Warsaw Park’s Department’s Family Carnival.
Past Gov. Ron Donkers & Lt. Gov. John Sullivan introduced us to Optimist International Foundation’s Dime-A-Day fundraising program. Our club does a great job providing fellowship to about 10% of our district. We also are fortunate that we are able to serve many youth in our community. However, some of the overhead for things like the Oratorical and Essay contests at the district and higher levels are in need of funding. We fund the winners of our own contests, but someone needs to fund the winners at the higher levels. As a larger club, we need to cover a large part of these costs. The Dime-A Day program is a great way to do this. Please send your $36.50 to Optimist International Foundation, Dime-A-Day Campaign, P. Bo. Box 952126, St. Louis, MO 63195. Make sure you put “club # 04555” in the memo section of your check. An even better way to do this is to use a form Ron has to have your card charged $3.05 per month on an ongoing basis.
Canned Food Chairman Luke Becknell reported we gave $354 for food for those in need.
Last week we raised about $500 for the Cub Scouts at our Cake Auction.
Visitation Chairman Ron Chambers announced we will visit the Middlebury club Friday, December 20. Our group will leave from The Bowling Alley / Tokens N Tickets (North Detroit Street) at 5:45 a.m. The meeting is at Das Dutchman Essenhaus!
Thanks go to Dr. Jenny & Alan Lucht for stepping up to fill Past President John Elliott’s formidable shoes as our new Car Show chairmen. They will shadow Johnfor the 2014 show and take over the 2015 show. Much thanks to John Elliott and Art Gakstatter for all their work on our show from 2010 when they invented it to now. Thanks to Jenny, Alan, & Art for continuing our great show. We are blessed to go from the Fish Fry and Christmas Tree sales to our Triathlon and Car Show.
Christmas Tree Chairman Harry Gigous thanked those who set up Owens Christmas Tree lot. Owens has been very generous to give us $5 for every tree they sell.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing Chairman Merl Heckaman reminded us to fill our time slots ringing the bell Saturday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kmart and both the North and South doors at WalMart.
Past Lt. Gov. Dr. David Haines provided our first post to our Year in Review series. It is featured on the front page of our website. Here is a direct linkhttps://warsawoptimist.org/
Laurie Schotz announced we will be greeted by carolers at the door on Wednesday, December 11. They are a preview of the Hoosier Holiday at Warsaw Community High Schools Performing Arts Center (PAC) Black Box Theatre on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and part of the proceeds go to the Pierceton Chamber. Call 260-479-9615 for reservations.
Sergeants-at-Arms: Trace Hansen, Luke Becknell,& Lyle Enyeart entertained us. Video Editor Jim Hayes played the soundtrack & showed us the picture of our Sergeants as “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.”
Dr. K.T. Kishan M.D. retired after 30 years of working on us. A large number of us raised our hands acknowledging KT had worked on us. Comparing notes we caught on that he would schedule our procedures for Wednesday mornings after our meetings. He would come into the operating room telling us and the nurses about the great speaker and breakfast. Seriously KT, we will miss your carving skills. Just make sure you come to our meetings, you still need to laugh now and then.
We voted to use the $80 from Paul Nye to buy Christmas gifts for the kids at Baker Youth Clubs.
Don Reinholt’s Reinholt Raiders won the flag football championship 25 years ago.
Optibullette Editor-Emeritus R Wayne Snider’s birthday is Monday, December 16.
Paul Heaton is celebrating his new baby.
Marv Miller is proud of his son, Evan Miller, for being an All Academic for Indiana in Tennis.
Mike Gavin donated $10 in celebration after writing his last tuition check.
Past President John Elliott loves Auburn and is glad Michigan’s coach was greedy.
Trace Hansen predicted it will still come to nothing.
Sergeant Luke Becknell is enjoying the 1st 3 days of his honeymoon. We noticed he feels like a youngster, now that he is in love. He has us sitting in all these different seats. As people of a certain age, we like our old seats. Luke, congratulations!
Patty Donkers is happy for Luke’s new wedded bliss.
Angie Tom verified the quality of the farming uniforms used at Tom Farms.
Art Gakstatter invited everyone to Winona Lake’s Kringlefest this Saturday, December 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ann Sweet was quizzed about the Seahawks who play in the CenturyLink Field.
Out of a lineup of Jay Tate, George Brennan, Dave Turner, Jim Hayes, Sam Whitacker, Mitch Goon, Matt Boren, Ot Schroeder, & Craig Nayrocker the following stepped forward as volunteer Santas: Jay Tate, Sam Whitacker, Mitch Goon, Matt Boren, and Ot Schroeder.
Program:
Warsaw Community Schools Chief Technology Officer Brad Hagg told us of the purposeful and planned implementation of technology in WCS. Brad has lived his whole life in Warsaw. Warsaw is a great place to live. In the future many young adults will be able to work around the world while living here. Our WCS mission of inspiring and equipping students to acquire knowledge and skills to pursue their dreams while enriching others prepares our students for their future.

They will shadow John for the 2014 show and take over the 2015 show.
Here is a direct link https://warsawoptimist.org/1975-1976-year-in-review/ .
In the past knowledge would double every 100 years. By World War II knowledge doubled every 25 years. Now knowledge doubles every 19 months. Eventually it will double every 12 hours.
We do not know what our kids will do for work. Whatever it will be it is likely to change during their life. Education that will work for our kids will be different than the education we received.
Dr. Craig Hintz has encouraged Professional Learning Communities inside our schools, where teachers help teach fellow teachers. The teachers who are doing the best in an area such as leveraging learning with technology turn around and teach fellow teachers.

Make sure you put “club # 04555” in the memo section of your check. An even better way to do this is to use a form Ron has to have your card charged $3.05 per month on an ongoing basis.
