President John Sullivan announced our Awards meeting will be at our usual morning meeting on September 26th. Excellent idea!
President John Sullivan read the amendment to our Bylaws. Copies of the amendment were on the tables for us to review. The amendment is Article V, Section 1, about termination of membership. Future Dates

Ot Schroeder asked us to invite our high school students and the high school students we know to attend the 1st Octagon meeting at 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.
Sheriff of Attendance: Sheriff Bill Landrigan and Deputy Harry Gigous greeted Mike Cusick, Nick Deeter, and Mike Gavin. They are going a great job. 98 of us were here today. They will do the biblical story and go out and find the 2 lost sheep this week. (Mike Hall and Kevin Marose.)

It is a difficult task.
Tracy Horrell announced Art in the Park will be September 15, 2012. Helpers are needed in shifts between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Set up is at 8:30 a.m.
Dave Meier reports the Big Wheel Race has been moved to Sept. 14 along with the First Friday. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and the race begins at 6:30 p.m. We provide the volunteers and Penguin Point provides the prizes. The Times-Union did a nice front page write-up for us.
Bart Templeton is looking for greeters.
Ron Chambers invited us to visit the Rochester Optimist Club the morning of September 17th. Meet at Rozella Golf Club at 6:10 a.m.
Board member Andy Swihart presented Dr. Nate Bosch with a $700 check for Grace College’s Lakes and Streams field day for 4th graders. 400 4th graders will learn about our water at several learning stations at Pike Lake.
Jay Tate reported 94 kids were enrolled in Safe Assured ID at the Family Safety Day at Center Lake on September 8th and 38 kids were enrolled at the St. Jude’s Day at the Lake on Sept. 9th. He thanked those who volunteered.
Trina Hoy invited us to the Warsaw – Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce’s Taste & Trade Expo on October 12 and 13 at the Orthopaedic Capital Center. Exhibitors are needed.

Mayor Joe Thallemer met with the C F and E Railroad, the owners of the line that goes through town. He is lobbying for an Amtrak passenger railroad line to go through Warsaw on a route between Fort Wayne and Chicago. Great work utilizing the OrthoWorx study!

Don Reinholt was our county’s #1 veteran. He reported learning to salute officers and to not volunteer. He found himself loading coal all night because he volunteered to drive a truck.
Purdue fans were recognized.
Grace has a record enrollment, not counting the 900 G.E.D. students in prisons.
Luke Becknell reported the 2 Bourbon & Back for cystic fibrosis went well.
Gina Voelz reminded us the Warsaw Lady Tiger Volleyball team is undefeated in regular season play.
John Burtoft reported that in response to Taurus’ successful “the Judge” revolver, Ruger is coming out with a revolver called “the Congressman.” It does not work and you can not fire it.
Nick Deeter’s son passed Navy Seal training and is headed out to control pirates.
Angie Tom’s son Keegan is in the play Oliver at the Wagon Wheel Theatre.
Mike Gavin’s table noticed how well dressed Mike is. We can all tell our sons to stop by Mike’s office to see what a successful person looks like. Seriously, Mike is always a good example of a well dressed man.
Program:
Tom Kline, Madison Elementary principal, and past Warsaw Community Schools accountability officer told us the good news about Warsaw Community Schools Student Test Scores. In short Warsaw’s test scores are going up in all of the following areas: ISTEP Math, ISTEP Language Arts, IREAD-3, ECA Math, ECA Language Arts, Dual Credit, SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement tests.
ISTEP Language Arts went from 77.5 to 84.1% passing
ISTEP Math went from 78.6 to 83% passing
They changed to the Balanced Literacy Program to help language arts. They changed to the Math In Focus “Singapore Math” program to help with math. The Singapore program can actually be traced back to the system of math teaching we did years ago in the U.S.
Our kids’ improvement in English and Math both has been #1 of the 20 school systems in our area. Our kids’ English improvement was 22nd and our kids’ Math improvement was 7th out of 290 school systems in the state.
The IREAD-3 test has to be passed for a student to move into 4th grade. In 2012 we had 511 students go on to 4th grade with 1 student retained.
Dual Credit classes enable a student to earn high school and college credit for the same class. In the 09-10 year we had 82 students earning 809 credits. In the 11-12 year we had 414 students earn 2122 credits.
The Advanced Placement (AP) classes prepare a student to take an AP test. A score of 3 out of 5 means the student has earned college credit. In 07 49 students took 69 tests and 30 earned credit for 53 classes. In 11 165 students took 277 tests and 93 earned credit for 161 classes.
Many of our students start college as Sophomores because of dual credit and AP classes.
Our students SAT and ACT scores are also higher.
Our graduation rate in 2009 was 74.9%. In 2011 it was 88.84%. When the official numbers are released for 2012 it will be over 90% and over 96% including the GED students.
Again test scores are going up at Warsaw Community Schools.
