Program: Larry Plummer, Superintendent of the Warsaw Parks Department, talked about plans for various parks in Warsaw. Proposed changes to Center Lake Park include changes to the entry of of 15 including a large sign with columns, a deceleration lane on 15 and possible acquisition of the gas station on 15. The pier will be revised so that water can flow underneath it. The NIPSCO substation will be condensed down to one third of the size, the land will be acquired and then then the park Maintenance facilities would be located there. Center Lake Park is 80% of the work in the Parks Department. The Arthur Street crossing will be changed to connect Bixler and Beyer Parks. He talked about the Eye Strike Lightening system, which is at Center Lake Park, the Campgrounds and Pike Lake. This system can detect approaching storms and give patrons a signal to alert them. We’re only the second city in the state to have this system. The 5 year master plan for Kelly park includes sledding hill, possible concert use, changing a tennis court to a pickleball court and revitalizing the pond. He said they are trying to distribute the concerts over the city so they aren’t just at Center Lake Park. The new recreation guide comes out in April.
