87 Optimists & 4 guests attended our meeting. Garry Phillips was the guest of Trace Hansen; Mike Metzger was the guest of Dan Metzger; Kevin Scott & Dr. Craig Hintz were the guests of Tom Kline.

May 20th Car Show: John Elliott will have a sign-up sheet for volunteers next week. Please clear your calendar on May 20th so you can help. Please give your $25 to John Teevan. On the other hand, we are asking businesses to sponsor at the $100, $200, or $500 levels. Give the big checks to Ann Sweet. So far Ann has over $2000. Our goal is $5,000.
Everett Nifong announced that our Golf Outing will be June 7th at Stonehenge.
Deb Miller & Past Pres. Jeff Owens thanked those who worked our Oratorical Contest. On March 21 our winners will recite their speeches. Special thanks go to Nick Deeter, Past Pres. George Brennan, & Past Pres. John Elliott for covering the entire cost of the contest & the prizes.
Jim Hayes announced our Club Directories are out. Thanks go to Allegra Printing for printing them at NO COST!
Tracy Horrell & Troy Akers introduced us to our Students of the Week from Warsaw Community High School: Paige Chalk, Philip Fiorruci, Emma Lemon, Vanessa Malagon, Chance Parker, Amber Rundberg, Andrew Scheidt, Spencer Slabaugh, & Michael Yantz.
Rick Kerlin is looking for volunteers to answer the phones March 15 & 16 at the Radio-A-Thon for Riley Families.
Past Pres. George Brennan announced we are fielding 2 teams at this years Warsaw Education Foundation Quiz Bowl. He is looking for 10 people who “know a lot about nothing.” The event is March 20th.

Coach Jim Kessler was recognized for Grace winning the NCCAA Tournament Championship! He is proud of his kids & thankful for the support of Grace’s administration.
Lt. Gov. Sam Whitaker retired from the Sheriff’s Office. Tomorrow he starts the same job at the Prosecutor’s Office.
Dan Metzger & Dr. Craig Hintz were fined for fielding competing teams at the Quiz Bowl.
Nick Deeter’s son graduated from Navy Seal training.
Martin Becker’s 6 year old grandson is enjoying Upward Basketball. We hear it is a hoot.
Mike Gavin is happy the Hoosiers won.
Troy Akers was rusty on his Latin, but Past Lt. Gov. Dr. David Haines gave him a refresher.
Rick Kerlin is happy that Ford won.
Kevin Marose invited us to see their new billboard on the west side of town. It will keep their longtime east of town billboard company.
Lyle Enyeart is taking people walleye & perch fishing in his boat that is pulled by his fancy Ford Truck.

Program:
Rotarian & Warsaw Community Schools superintendent, Dr. Craig Hintz introduced us to Warsaw Community Schools new Strategic Plan. It is a long term roadmap for the schools and all the students they serve. A team of 30 people, 15 from WCS & 15 from the community, spent over 40 hours developing a consensus on the plan.
The CORE VALUES are what WCS believes & will stand on. These values are: everyone has value;
every individual has something to contribute;
learning enriches life;
honesty, integrity, & trust are fundamental to thriving relationships;
embracing diversity strengthens community;
people have life-changing power;
& giving of time, talent, & resources is vital to the wellbeing of the community.
WCS MISSION is where WCS is going. WCS Mission is to inspire & equip ALL students to continuously acquire & apply knowledge & skills while pursuing their dreams & enriching the lives of others. Regardless of a particular employee’s function, their mission is the same.
The STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES are mini mission statements and move from the mission statement. WCS Strategic Objectives are:
all students will develop & implement an annual plan where they invest their time & talents to serve others;
all students will express, plan & demonstrate progress toward their dreams;
all students will demonstrate growth & proficiency in alignment with district standards in the courses & programs in which they participate.
The STRATEGIES are what WCS will do to move the mission statement forward:
build collaborative relationships with the community to share our time, talent & resources to support our mission & strategic objectives;
supplement core standards with additional district standards to align all offered courses & programs with our mission & strategic objectives;
assure that all current & future staff understand, trust & contribute to our mission & strategic objectives;
& embrace & engage technologies as accelerators to achieve our mission & strategic objectives.
The STRATEGIC DELIMITERS are what WCS will not do:
adopt any new programs or service unless it is aligned with & contributes to WCS’s mission and is accompanied by the resources needed for its implementation;
& allow past practices or tradition to interfere with the consideration of new ideas.
In other news WCS is moving ahead in its progress from good to great. The full-day kindergarten, Mandarin Chinese, & French classes have gone very well. WCS will soon start programs in culinary arts & in orchestra stringed musical instruments.
Dr. Hintz recognized OrthoWorx, the Cambridge Educational Review, the WCS board including our Dan Metzger, & the strategic planning committee including our Rick Kerlin for the vision to see a path to greatness at Warsaw Community Schools.
