We collected today & will collect next week for our scholarship fund in honor of Richard Tuttle. It was decided that no one else is going to pass. We have had enough.
President Tracy Furnivall thanked those who helped with the Cruisin Hoosiers / Optimist Car Show for Baker Youth Club. Over $17,000 was raised!
Trina Hoy reported that our Spooktakular will be Friday, November 1 as part of First Friday.
Dave Meier reported the Penguin Point / Optimist Big Wheel Race will be Friday, October 4 as part of First Friday.
Juergen Voss thanked us for supporting the Lake City Skiers & invited us to their Sunday, September 1 6 p.m. show. Their events are at Hidden Lake. They placed 6th in the nation this year!
Luke Becknell announced “2 Bourbon & Back” Cycling for Cystic Fibrosis is Saturday, September 7. $15 entry fee, $18 after August 31. Family entry fee (Parents, Children) $40, after August 31 $45. There is a 2 p.m. ride to either Etna Green or Bourbon & back. The rides are from 27 to 39.5 miles. There is also the 3:30 p.m. race that is 29 miles. Luke2bb@comcast.net or www.becknell.org
Chairman Jay Tate is passing around a sign-up sheet for our Safe Assured ID at the Family Safety Day, Saturday, September 14 at Center Lake Park. Shifts are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Past Chairman Fred Nieter recommended that new members stop by to see how the operation works.
Please pray for our Troops and Families: LCpl R. J. Blackwell – Marines Recon
Sergeants-at-Arms: John Elliott, Everett Nifong, & Joel Wihebrink entertained us.
Doug Ogle is glad that Courtney married Will Thrasher.
It was noted that I.U.’s new flagpole is 6’ higher than Ohio State’s. Past President John Elliott wondered if they would want to switch football teams.
Past President Bob Jackson is happy the Irish are starting their season.
The 100 smartest cities in the U.S. include Warsaw, along with many other college towns. It was noted that Columbus, Ohio was not on the list.
President Tracy Furnivall was noted for inventing some new words this morning. Maybe that is part of our being in the 100 smartest cities.
Also, Past Lt. Gov. Ot Schroeder was heard doing a special version of our creed. Creativity runs in Warsaw, one of the 100 smartest cities.
Speaking of smart, Past Lt. Gov Sam Whitaker put Lt. Gov. John Sullivan in the section without squirrels, while he, Sam, worked the section loaded with squirrels. Johnsaid it sounded like a shooting range over there. He failed to say if Sam actually left with any squirrels. Maybe Sam was just trimming the tops of his trees with lead.
Abisha Varatharaj, Kelsi Griffith, & Matt Boren are all running a lot.
Past president Joel Wihebrink mentioned to Deputy Harry Gigous that he and his crew are working in the heat so that John Elliott can get back into his garage.
Past President Joel Wihebrink’s crew saw lightning go sideways past John Teevan’s house & hit a tree. A couple days earlier Teevan’s neighbor’s house was hit by lightning. Maybe John is supposed to go to Bethel. (Like Jonah was to switch cities.)
Dave Turner was surprised to find out that he has been playing in the Lake Area Band with Marty Becker.
Gina Voelz is proud of her daughter, Katie, for being elected volleyball team captain because of her enthusiasm. It was noted that she had 9 kills.
Indiana Superintendent of the Year Dr. Craig Hintz is happy that OrthoWorx is donating another $300k for science education in our elementary schools.
Coach Jim Kessler is glad to have the new super nice bus to take his team on the road. He offered the old U-Haul to Ed Nordstrom for his garage sale.
Unfortunately, our hard working, easy going, Ed Nordstrom is moving to Portland, Oregon. He is having his garage sale Thursday, Friday, & Saturday this week at 1622 Lilac Lane.
TheWeb.com/PGA reports that top golfers who are going for their PGA Tour Card will compete at Syracuse Hills in Fort Wayne this Thursday through Sunday. The Golf Channel will carry it. Top golfers like Jason Gore will compete. This event will award a million dollars, with $180k to the winner. Most tournaments these players participate in award around $25k to the winner. The new format for qualifying for the PGA Tour Card stresses money won. This makes this weekend’s tournament important. This helps fund the Evans Scholarship that our own Past President John Elliott won.
Even though Sergeants have amnesty, Coach Doug Ogle and Coach Jim Kessler got Past President John Elliott because his son, Brian, a standout player for both Warsaw & Grace, set the Unofficial World Record for three point basketball shots in a minute. You can see Brian make 32 three pointers in a minute by typing “most 3 pointers made in one minute – unofficial world record” at YouTube.com. John of course is proud of Brian. However his grandkids also star in the video. Brian Jr. &Jackson rebounded while Olivia and Lillibelle were playing. Lilli famously “needed bubbles” as Olivia cheered Brian on. Brain’s wife, Jennifer, did a super job with the camera.
Bill Landrigan invited us to the Right To Life of North Central Indiana’s banquet Monday, September 23. The speaker is Melissa Ohden. See Bill or www.nci4life.org for details.
Program:
Warsaw Firefighters Kreg Warren and Brian Zehring told us about our upcoming Family Safety Day at Warsaw’s Central Park on Saturday, September 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our own Safe Assured ID is one of the most popular events. There is usually a line.
Some of the other events are a Bike Rodeo, Zip Line, & KREMC Bucket truck rides. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be there. Both Lutheran and Parkview will send their helicopters. The police will do K-9 demonstrations.
Kids can meet police officers, fire fighters, state police officers, electric linemen, county sheriff’s officers, conservation officers, and EMTs. A goal is that kids become acclimated to emergency personnel, so they will not be stressed if they need one later.
