Sheriff & Deputy of Attendance Bill Landrigan and Harry Gigous greeted Andy Swihart, Ryan Harper, Nick Deeter, and Mark Caruso.  They are working on Greg Binkerd, Roger Crouse, Dr. Sandy Engelberth, Sheriff Rocky Goshert, Sergeant Mike Hall, Mark Skibowski, and even Sergeant John Elliott.


 


Program Chairman Akash Jain announced a new Team of the Week program.  Many teams in our schools will visit our club over the year.  There are a lot of sports besides the ones that draw big crowds.  Fred Nieter probably has seen all these kids play.


Also it is to be noted that Chairman Akash Jain and our Program Committee of Kelsi Griffith, Mary Ellen Jordan,Trace Hansen, and Chad Zaucha have done a wonderful job of scheduling programs way out into the future.


 


Bill Cook & Don Parker from our Noon Club delivered floral arrangements.


Bill & Don also announced we can buy Golden Glow Chicken at Owens East on Saturday, May 4 for our Noon Club.  


 


Past Gov. Ron Donkers reminded us of the District Meeting in Marion Friday and Saturday, April 26 & 27.  Lt. Gov. John Sullivan is looking for people to run for Lt. Gov.  We mentioned he could continue.  He thought since President Tracy Furnivall was not present, he would just put his name down.  Welcome to the DNR Railroad!!!  


 


 


Art Gakstatter reminded us we are looking for sponsors for our 4th Annual Breakfast Optimist Club City of Lakes Cruise In to Downtown Warsaw on Sunday, May 19, 2013.  Those who are sponsoring at the corporate level need to get their money in right away, so they are included in the advertisements.  We also need people to work the event.  A sign-up sheet is going around. 


Antique fire trucks and an antique flyover are planned.  ML Motorsports is displaying their car.  The Studebaker Museum and the Michiana Studebaker Car Club are bringing a car or two.  The Oscar Meyer “Hot-Dog” Mobile is invited.  Purdue President Mitch Daniels has been personally invited to ride his motorcycle and be the Grand Marshall of our escorted Cruise to The Village of Winona Lake.


Please turn in your Trophy Sponsor Form to John Teevan (the man with the money tie) along with your check.  The $25 Trophy Sponsorships are for members of our Club.  We are asking others to support at the $100, $200, or $500 levels.

President Elect Everett Nifong announced Abisha Varatharaj has gotten a team from Biomet signed up for our Golf Outing on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Stonehenge.  Brochures are by the badge box.  Florida scramble cost is $425 per foursome, including golf, cart, lunch, and driving range.  Tee sponsorship is $100.  A foursome and tee sponsorship is $500.  Gold sponsorships are $1,000.  For more information:  www.warsawoptimist.org or call 574-551-9145.  You can also donate door prizes or goody bag gifts.  Everett’s team has emailed prior years golfers and sponsors.


 


Past Gov. Ron Donkers reminded our new members to check with Co-Chair Luke Becknell to find a job at our Triathlon.  The date has been changed to the Saturday JUST BEFORE the 4th of July.  It will be Saturday, June 29, 2013.  We have 102 signed up already.  Also this year in addition to a short swim after the traditional participants, there will be kid’s races for kids who are 11 to 12 or 13 to 14.


 


Karen Kauffman invited us to Warsaw Christian School’s Saturday, May 4 Carnival.  Admission is free.  There is food to purchase including hot dogs and Noa Noa BBQ along with pony rides and a jumpee.  It runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dave Turner reported what he learned about ducks at a convention. 


Amanda Zambrano was recognized for offering 3 months free housing for those who usually live 9 months in Florida and 3 months here.  They just need to find a couple sister companies in Florida and they will be set.


 


Program:  Today we had two programs:  Warsaw Community High School Poetry Out Loud winners and Ann Zydek from the Warsaw Community Public Library.

Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek reported about our Building Block of the Community.  Our library completed a strategic plan update in December 2012.  Our library is a 21st century library … embedded and engaged in our community. 


Our library’s key outcomes/information priorities are:  digital engagement, education, entertainment, physical/virtual destinations, and community engagement.


Ann talked about the library’s current programs, resources and services and shared some upcoming trends that may impact the library and our community.


Our library is strong because of our quality trained staff.
