WINONA LAKE – Swimming, biking and running will all be a part of Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club’s annual triathlon Saturday.
This will be the 17th year for the triathlon and approximately 700 participants have registered for this year’s triathlon, according to Ron Donkers, race director.
Proceeds from the race will go toward programs sponsored by Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club.
Participants are expected to come from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and North Carolina, according to Donkers.
Participants can pick up their registration packets Friday at the Winona Lake Senior Center from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 6 to 7:30 a.m.
The race begins Saturday in Winona Lake Park at 8 a.m. It starts with a quarter mile swim, 13-1/2-mile bike ride from Winona Lake to Pierceton and back, and a 3-1/5-mile run on the Greenway Trail, through Southtown Addition, past Rodeheaver Auditorium and back to the park.
The race will end at 11 a.m. when plaques will be awarded during a ceremony to the top 10 percent in each category and age group. Participants range in ages from 15 to 70 and are male and female.
