Program:

Executive Director Tracie Hodson told us of the Campaign for Beaman Home’s New Emergency Shelter & Outreach Center.  The Beaman Home saves lives on crisis at a time.  They were founded in 1985 by Altrusa.

Beaman Home’s Mission Statement is to provide essential services to victims of domestic violence, and their children, by empowering them to live with dignity while helping to break the cycle of violence.  They do this by providing a safe haven, along with support services while partnering with and educating the community.

Today the Emergency Shelter is located in a single family dwelling that has 13 beds in 3 bedrooms.

The new building will separate the residential area from the workshop area.  Our own Past Lt. Gov. Mary Ellen Jordan is working up the plans.  The goal is to raise $1.8 million.  Our own K21 Health Foundation Executive Director Rich Haddad said we wish the shelter was not needed, but it is.  Once $1,550k is raised the K21 Health Foundation will provide the $250k cap grant.  The Kosciusko County Community Foundation is providing a $1 for $1 matching grant up to $50k.  Our own Past Gov. Ron Donkers encouraged us to give towards the KCCF matching grant by committing to give the same generous amount he has this year for several more years.

Tracie’s video showed a moving statement from our State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki remembered life years ago before the Beaman Home.  There was no place to go at the time of abuse.
